protecting old guns that are nib

Post by treadlok97 »

I oil them down, wrap them in wax paper and put the in the box in the safe. What do you do?

Old or New, Renaissance wax and oil the inside.

The National Firearms Museum used to have a page on it, but it appears gone now...

It used to be, I take them out of the box. Store the box high and dry with no load on it. Keep the guns in the safe. At least once a year I would wipe them down with a soft rag with RemOil on it. After unloading a bunch of high dollar guns, anymore I don't own it if I don't shoot it. I have had several that were 99%+, but they were fired. I'm not a collector.
What could have happened... did.

Dave is right. Renaissance Wax and keep silicon oils away from the wood. Keep fingerprints off the metal (white gloves). Control the huhumidity.Keep an eye on the conditions as often as you have time for. The same advice for any gun that is in storage. For NIB, keep protected from direct sun light.
