I'm trying to find out information on a shotgun. Because of the shelter in place order I cannot drive the 100 miles to look at it. I do not know the serial number. It is a Remington 1100, 28 gauge with a 25 inch vent rib barrel choked Imp Cyl, and walnut wood. It has stamped on the left side of the barrel, "For 3 inch plastic shells only." I did not know Remington made the model 1100 28 gauge in a 3 inch magnum only configuration. Does anyone have any information about this gun? A friend of mine told me to remove the barrel and look at the number of gas ports inside the lug that goes around the mag tube. He said a magnum generally has 1 port, and a 2 3/4 generally has 2 ports. The shelter in place order expires on April 13th and I may get a chance to go look at the gun if the order isn't extended.
Thanks for any info,
Rod
Remington 1100 28 gauge 3 inch only
Re: Remington 1100 28 gauge 3 inch only
Remington has never made a 3" 28 gauge 1100 or anything else. Someone may have modified one with a 3" chamber for the rare 3" shells, but if they remarked the barrel it should be plain to see. My guess is it's either a 20 gauge and a typo or a 28 gauge and a typo.
The earlier 28 gauge models did come with a 25" barrel, and I think that is an excellent gun for hunting or skeet; like the handling better than the 27" barreled Sporting models.

What could have happened... did.

That sounds like the markings found on many .410-bore Model 1100s.
