1100 identification
Received this from my grandfather that passed away. Don’t know much about shotguns but I enjoy occasional clay shoot competitions. Any information you have about this would be great! Also wondering if modifications could be done for his great grandson (pre-teen) until they grow into using it as a full size. Little heavy right now for him.

Re: 1100 identification
Standard 12 gauge (V suffix) Model 1100, second generation made between 1978 and 1984 (N Prefix). Barrel code indicates 1980,but it may not be the original barrel. Modified choke. Very good gun. Looks like it was fairly well taken care of. Shorter stocks are available.
What could have happened... did.
Re: 1100 identification
Other than a shorter stock you might also consider having a Rem Choke installed or buying a barrel with it already present. A new barrel would allow you obtain a shorter barrel (less weight) for your pre-teen. Also, buying a barrel on eBay or another site might be less expensive than modifying the current barrel.
Bought a Rem Choke barrel for my '70s vintage 870 and would do it again.
