Strange Forend Crack in 1100G3

Post by dhenzler »

Recently purchased an 1100G3 which came to me with a badly cracked forend. I notified the sending party, and they adjusted the price. However the mystery of how such a crack could occur in a shotgun that showed very little use was intriguing. Upon inspection the gas system showed near new parts with very little carbon. The gun may have been fired half a box or so...

The crack extends from the rear portion above the inner reinforcement, through nearly 40% of the checkered area. No signs of drop or physical stress can be seen. I am really unable to figure how this may have occurred. Perhaps one of you may have the answer.

Unfortunately the Remington Parts department claims they have no stock on this piece. Manufactured in 2008 this should have lasted a lifetime, and shows no other signs of abuse. I think Remington should be required to have parts on hand for 10 years following discontinuation of a product. Or be able to get one made if need be... this is likely a CNC checkering job...

Opinions welcome ! Dave shoot@ccskeet.com
