Model 11 A/B identification
Model 11 A/B identification
Hey guys have a model 11 with serial number 714412. Date code on the barrel reads APP. Brrel is also stamped FULL. I am just looking to determine whether this is an A or B grade model 11. I’m also wishing to learn how to tell the differences.

Re: Model 11 A/B identification
We already told you the answer on Shotgunworld.com but here it is again --
The receiver with serial number 714412 was put in work during March 1944. The barrel date code of APP is March 1945 -- A = March PP = 1945. The gun is a Model 11A "Standard" Grade.
From the introduction of Remington's John M. Browning designed autoloading shotgun in 1905 to the late 1920s, the Model 11A "Standard" Grade had a plain blued receiver and and plain uncheckered wood. The Model 11B "Special" Grade had a checkered, European Walnut, stock and forearm. About 1928 or 9 when the Model 11 got the cross-bolt safety behind the trigger, the Model 11A "Standard" Grade got checkered American Walnut wood. Circa 1937 Remington Arms Co., Inc. went to using the same receiver with the one-bird roll-stamping on both sides for the Model 11 and the "Sportsman" and dropped the seperate serial number sequences for the "Sportsman". A B "Special" Grade was marked B Grade on the left side of the receiver --

Thanks for the information. I saw the post on shotgun world. I had posted on both sites the same day it just took this one a while to get approved by the admins. Thanks.
