Hi. Newbie here. I would like to install a screw in ( preferably non-slip on ) recoil pad for a 1954 12 gauge Model 870 "BDL". The butt has a slight curve - not flat, so the newer recoil pads, both Remington and after-market - at least what I can find, do not fit.
I'd like to know what my options are ? Not looking to create a massive project, although it does seem like that's what this entails.
My goals - NOT ruin my beautiful stock. Make the recoil pad look like it was meant to be there and not an afterthought. And the recoil pad has to be effective ( the grindable, solid, eraser-colored ones look pretty rigid )..
Ideas welcome - " Been there... done that " - even better...
Model 870-12 gauge BDL circa 1954 Recoil Pad ?

Unless you want to lengthen the LOP you will need to cut the stock anyway, so cut it square. I have installed Pachmayr pads on an uncut Model 1100 stock which had quite a bit of curve. Put the pad in boiling water and let it get hot and then held it to the btstock while it cooled and that worked.
What could have happened... did.
