Model 870TB?

Post by rWt »

I saw a Remington 870TB today with the 150th anniversary logo on the left side of the receiver. Serial number is 1051xxxV. wood was very nice!. Not mint but looks hardly used if at all.

The owner wants to sell it to help fund his daughters college fund (it was his grandfather's shotgun).

Any idea what this model is-the TB after 870 is not known to me? It has some form of adjustable butt pad.

The "TB" model stands for "Trap" "B" grade. There's also been a model "TC" which is a little higher grade (mostly in the wood).

The following link may explain some of the letters used in the serial numbers.

150 years from 1816 should put it in 1966.

I do not remember any of the 150th Anniversary 870 guns being Trap or Skeet models, but it has been 50 years. :D They sold 2,534 870 150th Anniversary models in 1966 and 1977. The 150th Model 1100s were all Trap and Skeet guns, and they sold 2,929 of those. To me, those guns and the 1973 DU gun were the best looking 1100s they ever made.
What could have happened... did.

I have a 150th TC 870 and a 1973 new in the box 870 TB. I paid around $600.00 for the TB a few years back and the TC has the 150th logo on the receiver and it had been used but not abused about 85% and I paid $400.00 for it about 3 years ago. One thing I found out about the TB was the barrel was made in 1971 and according to Remington the receiver was made in 1973 so I guess they installed an old stock barrel on the receiver and you can't always go by the barrel codes to date 870's 1100's.
