You can swap barrels for a longer one, but you will need an oversize O ring to keep the magazine capo on because there is no wood between the barrel ring and the mag cap because of the shorter magazine. On the 870 the moved the barrel ring, but not on the 1100/11-87.

Is it ok to shoot steel shot through an 1100 with say a modified choke barrel?

What non -toxic shot loads to you prefer?

PS Do the high velocity steel loads cause any cycling or wear issues?

Remington used to say any barrel since 1950, any choke modified or more open, and any steel #2 or smaller was okay. With the newer wads you could probably push those limits even more. I have seen no issue with high velocity or magnum steel loads. The 1100 action is self regulating to a degree. The slots on the barrel gas ring bleed off excess gas pretty well.

Thanks!!

Are there certain barrel markings to look for to make certain it is for a LT 1100?

I'm a bit confused about barrels for LT 1100's.

I gather a "standard" barrel will not fit properly, but it is ok to use a LT barrel that is for a 3" LT 1100 on a non-magnum LT 1100???

Do you recommend lengthening the forcing cone or any other work on the barrel?

Found a couple of barrels on Ebay for around $100-not great condition. There is a nice 1100 LT at Cabalas with a 26" barrel for about $700 and there is one on GB with a 27 1/2" barrel for $850. to sure why it's stated to be 27 1/2". Did Remington ever make a 27 1/2" barrel, or is it really a 28" one?

Is there a trick to getting the properly sized O rings? Would you go with a new factory firing pin spring or one by Wolff?

An LT barrel should say LT.
A 3" barrel will fit but probably not cycle properly.
The only barrel work I would contemplate would be getting choke tubes fitted to a fixed choke barrel.
Remington barrel lengths are often not exact.
They take a #19 Viton O ring.
I have Wolff springs in all my handguns, but I have only used Remington firing pin springs with zero issues.
