Model 10a question...
I have a model 10-A serial number 154775 that I believe was made 1916-1917.It has matching numbers on the barrel and reciever. The barrel is marked full, but is 18 5/8 inches long with a bead site.It falls in the government purchase serial number block, but is not U.S. marked.Could this have been purchased by the government as a standard 10-A and cut down to meet specs.?
Re: Model 10a question...
Unlikely? Yes, the serial number comes from the block of numbers 128,00 to 166,000. But, Remington says that they only sold 3,500 to the military. A military gun would have the flaming bomb stamped on the left side of the receiver and possibly on the barrel too. The length is also wrong, trench guns had a 23 inch barrel, 20 inch barrels for guarding prisoners, and 26 to 30 inch barrels for training aerial gunners.
Sounds more like it was cut down by an individual. But... I'm no expert on 10's just reporting what I've read.
It's probably not a trench gun, but it's still cool!
