I own a Remington Model 11 made in 1937. Can anyone tell what finish was used for it? It hat a prior owner, but I have owned it since 1964. I presume the stock finish is original.
Thanks.

Re: Finish On Model 11
Apparently no one knows the answer. Any ideas how I can find out the finish on this stock?
Re: Finish On Model 11
No guarantees, but it is likely varnish. That's what Remington used on most standard models up until the DuPont bowling pin finish arrived in 1963.

Re: Finish On Model 11
The finishe used on the wood of A "Standard" Grade Remington guns in the 1930s and 40s was more likely DuPont Duco.

What was DuPont Duco? Lacquer? I know paint stipper will take it right off.
