Long time lurker, first time post.
Very frustrated and confused. I have an 1100 magnum that came with hardwood stock and forearm and planned to replace them with oil-stained Walnut pieces. After checking the usual sources for replacement stocks, quickly found not available, or out of stock, and so forth.
One source had the desired stock, but no matching forearm in same finish, let alone color shade. Was also trying to keep checkering correct, but very difficult with different Remington checkering patterns; when they were used, and when one pattern for one piece is found, there is no matching available in same pattern for the other piece.
After further researching on frame and receiver sizes, I found that generally, and asserted by many, the 11-87 and 1100 12 ga. stocks were interchangeable and there were no differences in 12 ga frame/receiver dimensions, regardless if magnum or not, for modern productions.
So, I order an 11-87 stock from Remington (part F403430), which was the satin-finished Walnut Sportsman stock for 12 ga 11-87. It arrives and it does not fit the 1100 receiver. The original 1100 stock forend measures 1.37" in W and 1.97" in H; the 11-87 stock measures 1.27" in W and 1.83" in H; a 7/64ths -9/64ths inch difference in height and width.
That means not any 12 ga stock (870 or 11-87) will fit a 1100 12 ga magnum receiver.
So what am I missing? Did I not understand something I read? Also, I am beginning to wonder if the Remington replacement stock is truly for a 12 ga. I noticed on the original stock, 11 is stamped into the stock forend, the surface that sits on the bearing plate. On the 11-87 stock, it has 87L and 20 stamped on it. Could that mean the 11-87 stock is for a 20 ga. 11-87?
The other alternative is to refinish the hardwood pieces, get them as close to Walnut color as possible, finish will TO, and leave it at that.
Remington 1100 12 ga magnum stock interchangeability
Re: Remington 1100 12 ga magnum stock interchangeability
Me thinks you got a 20 gauge stock. I have swapped around enough 1100/11-87 12 gauge butt stocks to say they are all interchangeable. Fore ends are a little different 1100 to 11-87, and the barrel channels can be different depending on the barrel series.
What could have happened... did.
Re: Remington 1100 12 ga magnum stock interchangeability
It sure enough was. I returned the stock anyway because it had a chip-out in the toe of butt. I also mentioned it would not fit the frame either. I got back a stock that fits, but same part #.
