870 Wingmaster 12 Gauge > Wood screws for buttplate

Post by kestrel »

Anyone aware of the type of wood screw (i. e. #10 wood screw x 1") used for fastening the buttplate to the stock of an 870 WingMaster... vintage 1980 ?

I am replacing a missing butt plate with a 'Limb Saver' unit, however the gun is also missing the screws.

Thanks, KMD Canada

Sorry about the late reply.

I haven't removed the screws from my 870 but it's been my experience with other Remington arms that butt plate screws are a different animal as they do not seem to fit into the standard wood screw system.

Buttplate? I thought all 12 gauge 870s had recoil pads as "standard" equipment from about 1967 or 1968 forward. That's what my old 1968 catalog says.
I think even the "heavy frame" 20 gauges had them back then, too. Mine from 1970 to the late 70s have them.

Recoil pads only on Magnums and target models until 1968, and after that all came standard with recoil pads except the 28 and 410 I believe. He may have just misspoken, and back then you could order about anything you wanted.
What could have happened... did.
