installing top lever spring for M1900

I ordered a top lever spring from Wisner for my M1900 SXS. The spring appears to be too long. Does anyone have info on what is the best way to fit the spring to the receiver? Should the end of the flexing leg of the spring fit snug or should it be a little room for movement as the top lever swings?

You may have to file it down so the pin slips in the hole. It should fit tight. I compress mine with a pliers to insert Jay Huber RSA
