It has "RA" surrounded by "Co" etched on the receiver. I assume its a Remington of some sort, even though nothing is etched on the barrel.
Its a 10 guage, and the plaque on the buttstock indicates that it was used in supressing race riots in Wilmington, NC, in 1898. I'm not making this up.
It has been passed down through my family. Anyone have any info on this piece?

Another pic with the action open. The maker's etching is almost barely visible above the forward bottom rivet in the receiver.
