Chamber length on Model 1885 10-gauge
Chamber length on Model 1885 10-gauge
Anyone know what was the 'standard' length of the chambers on a 10-gauge Remington Model 1885 double? I have a grade 2 gun with twist barrels but no 10-gauge chamber gauge. Using a narrow machinist's rule it appears to be 2 5/8" or maybe 2 3/4" but it's a little hard to measure. Thanks for any help!

In the 1885-86 Union Metallic Cartridge Co. catalog, the "standard" 10-gauge brass case was 2 5/8 inch but they also offered the brass cases in lengths from 2 3/4 inch to 3 1/4 inch. Their paper 10-gauge cases were offered in 2 5/8, 2 7/8 and 3 1/4 inch lengths.

Thanks, that supports my measurement of 2 5/8" chambers.

I believe my 1882 10ga has 2 3/4" chambers.

I have checked three 1882 an two 1883 ten Ga. guns all have 2 5/8 chambers. also have checked five 1878 duck guns they all have 2 7/8 chambers I would think they would have keep that as the standard chamber for ten Ga. but they didn't.
