Remington 12ga. standard frame has 2 grooves in the rib extension for the ejectors, they used this frame for both 12ga. and 16ga. guns. The 12ga. frame firing pins have 1 3/16" spacing between them.
Remington small 16ga. frame have a V groove in the rib extension for the ejectors, they used this
frame for both 16ga. and 12ga. guns. The 16ga. frame firing pins have 1 1/32" spacing between
them.
Remington used these frames on both the 1894 and 1900. If you see a pictures of Remington double
with either of these 2 rib extension you know it is the large or small frame.
If you look at the 2016 Winter issue of the Double Gun Journal page 35 you will see Terry Deem
1894 D grade built on the small 16ga. frame, look at page 36 and you will see why they made the
V style rib extension.

For everyone's reference, here is Mr.Deem's 1901 vintage lightweight 12-gauge D-Grade as pictured in The Double Gun Journal, Volume Twenty-Seven, Issue 4, page 36 --

Well to begin - the photo of the barrel of the 1900 that is (was) the subject of this post does appear to show a V grove. Photo isn't the best but??

So what Don has suggested seems very reasonable. To wit - standard frame 12 & 16 Ga, have 2 grove barrel extensions while small frame 12 & 16 Ga. have an inverted V grove. The question I now have is whether Researcher's 1909 KE 16 Ga is a small frame as indicated by the presence of a V grove barrel extension and his 1905 DEO is a large frame 16 Ga. as indicated by 2 groves.

Both of my 16-gauge Remington Hammerless Doubles have 28-inch barrels. The KE-Grade weighs 6 pounds 15.3 ounces and the DEO-Grade weighs right at 7 pounds. The extra .7 ounce on the D may be the leather-faced Silvers recoil pad. Dimensions are in the table I posted earlier in this thread.
