Model 1882 Rem SXS
Model 1882 Rem SXS
Hi fellows, new guy on the block. I have a Model 1882 SxS with serial #11612 passed down to me from my Grandpa. I would like to find out what year it is. I would like to get it restored back to it's original condition, be able to shoot twice, clean it and put back in my safe for my son. Can anyone help me find a professional restorer. Thanks
Re: Model 1882 Rem SXS
Hi, I would not restore you take all of character away. Just like when you fell and got cut you have a scar take it away you got nothing. It work just find for Grandpa why not for you? Wipe it down with Old English Furniture polish. If you want a new gun go buy one and shoot it.
Re: Model 1882 Rem SXS
I got you, but I have to, the stock is in 3 pieces, have it tywrapped together. The metal is rough. It is not a shooter right now. I am to the point that I have to professionally restore it. My Great-grand father bought the gun and it has been passed down, I have a 10 year son and want to pass it on. Thanks
Re: Model 1882 Rem SXS
Hi, you said the stock is in pieces is the wood sound? If it is it can be put back together. You chances of finding a original stock slim and none. I would fix the stock not do much more. You can buy a good 1882 for less than what going to cost you to restore yours.I know its not Grandpa's gun, but just like it.Thanks.
Re: Model 1882 Rem SXS
I found out that this gun was made between 1882-1888, trying to find exactly what year it was made. Serial #11612, can anyone help me with this info? I have only see 2 other 1882's on the internet , it will be hard to find a good one.
Re: Model 1882 Rem SXS
There are no records in regards to the 1882, or for that matter , any E. Remington & Sons shotguns. However, according to known serial numbers it is estimated the 1882 started with serial 1,000 and ended with 17,000, representing a production of 16,000 guns. So you can do the math and estimate your 11,612 is somewhere in the middle of 1882-1888. Regards restoration, you might contact Turnbull Mfg. Co. 585-657-6338 and discuss it with Doug.
