Remington 1894 high grade value??

Post by Rem1894DE16Ga »

I have always wanted to own a Remington 1894 high grade like this one on Gunbroker.

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =230043800

What can I expect to pay for a high grade like this?

Thank you,
Bill

That is probably a good ball park price for such a messed with EE-Grade. I remember when that gun use to be in the late Art McKee's display at the Forks of the Delaware gun show in Allentown, PA. The asking price on Charles Semmer's nice EE-Grade at the winter Las Vegas show was three times that, likewise the great "Clyde B. Wells" EE-Grade years ago when Chaddicks had it for sale.

I really wouldn't call the gun messed with. As far as we know, for some reason this EE got to Belgium and was rebarreled there. Study the Belgium markings on the barrel flat and they are not Remington barrels. And yes that beaver forend is not Remington. However it still is a Remington EE grade shotgun with J. Loy's engraving. With the scarcity of these high grade guns, I would imagine the value around $10,000.00

One added comment. The stock has obviouly been cut for the recoil pad. But the checkering pattern tells me it is the original butt stock. Especially the added oval gold name plate is in the right position.

I don't know how a gun could be much more "messed with"? Non-original barrels. Non-original forearm wood. Non-original recoil pad. Buggered screws. And, poor fit at the head of the stock indicating a split or split repair in the head of the stock.

From your posting, I gather you are looking for an EE grade 16ga. This is quite a scarce item. Some time ago, I spoke to
Charles Semmer about the number of 16ga EE grade guns. In his extensive listing, he had record of only 4 16ga
guns. I know of one if you are still interested, I can talk to the owner as he is getting on in years and has spoke often that
he should dispose of his collection

In that I didn't buy the Clyde B. Wells EE-Grade 16-gauge gun when Herschel Chadick had it at Las Vegas, I'll likely never buy one.

Griffin & Howe has a DE-grade 16-gauge on Gunsinternational that they say has a straight grip stock and trigger guard off an EE-Grade?!?

Wonder what my only known DEO-Grade 16-gauge is worth if G & H's gun is worth $22500??

Dave,

I'd say yours would bring a nice piece more, now that's relatively speaking, so for grin and giggles wouldn't you think at least 35% premium?

That puts it at $30,375.

My 10 ga CEO made it in today undamaged in transit, thank goodness.

Nice 105 yr old gun.
