1970 Remington 700 257 Roberts NEED Clarity

Post by WhiteRockGap1 »

Hello,

I joined this forum at the suggestion of Remington parts and service. Hopefully I can gain some clarity on sub model of what the Remington rep suggested is a 1970 model 700 257 Roberts CDL. Serial number an d barrel code match 1970, so I am comfortable with the year make. I am confused on what models were made for that year in the 257 Roberts caliber... this is solid wood without any black tips and no white lines between the tip and stock. I am not sure length of barrel although I am going to look at the gun today and hopefully have more info. It is in an auction, unfired and untouched by anyone but the owner whom is auctioning all of his firearms. can any one give me something to look at to help determine model, sub model etc...? I have the blue book of guns but am concerned that I may pull the value of the wrong model....and already I'm sitting deep at $950... Auction ends tomorrow and I would appreciate any accurate help that can be given.

That vintage of 700 didn't have a "S" prefix in the serial number, wasn't factory chambered for the 257R, and there was no CDL variant then. It may well be a custom shop rifle built to the owner's specs.

Definitely NOT 1970 vintage. ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!
Whoever told you that has no idea what he's talking about!
Just because he "suggested" it, doesn't make it so.
Remington produced a Limited Edition "Classic" in .257 Roberts in 1982, but that would have had a "B" prefix in the serial number.

But, they did make some Limited Edition Stainless Fluted 700s in .257 Roberts in 2009. Here are some links for verification:
