03-a3 carbine
Dear Sirs: Have here a Remington 03-a3 carbine manufactured oct/nov 1943 with a 16in. 4 twist barrel; trying to determine the origin of this rifle. Have been pointed here from other forums and have gleaned from them it is not a "bushmaster" but may have been designed for the "Philippine campaign". Know there were many "sporterized" conversions or modified "carbine" designs made from this rifle over the yrs but this does not appear to be one of them as it is still in pristine condition, the barrel appears uncut and it came from a highend gun collectors estate
. Could this be a proto or a one off? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Mark- Attachments

Considering the lack of information and lousy pictures you've provided, there's no way of figuring out what the heck you have.03a3carbine wrote: ↑Sat Apr 14, 2018 8:51 am Seems this site is in the same shape as the co. Thanks anyway
What "Philippine campaign"?
Looks like some "butcher job" from the 1950s.

"Lousy pics" best get to the eye doc or a new computer asap, if you think it is some sort of a cut down just say so that is the info sought. Same with the "philippine campaign" FYI many arms and ammo were shipped to the Philippines during ww2 in subs. Didn't mean to knock anyone off their high proud horse but a simple wish I could help but I don't know would have been fine!

Some of our folks seem a bit "territorial" when it comes to their specific area of collecting. Your pics were more than adequate, there is no doubt the piece has been cut down/modified. It's not a particularly well done "hump" if you will and there are more than just a few signs it wasn't done at an arsenal. Maybe it had a bad barrel and the owner thought it would be a fun project. Oh well!
I would find a new stock & barrel and put it back to original, might take a bit of time to find the parts but they are around, and would be a worthwhile project.
