Hand checkering vs pressed checkering
Can someone provide information as to when and what models of the Remington 700 were hand checkered vs when and what models has pressed checkered?
Re: Hand checkering vs pressed checkering
None but Custom Shop rifles were hand cut checkered. Impressed checkering was replaced with an awesome method of machine cut that looked like the real thing in 1974 on the 700s.

Thanks for your response. I recently purchased a Custom Shop 700 that was done in 1983.

I contacted one of Remington"s Dealers that you have to go through to order a Gun from the Custom Shop and was told that the base C Grade rifle has laser cut checkering. Price now $2999.

To me the old hand done custom shop checkering was beautiful !!! And it was done by true craftsman. Take the anniversary edition 7mm rem mag gun I would spend my money on an original in good shape before I bought the copy ! Here are a few pictures of a 1964 Custom Shop / C Grade in 222 rem mag. Now to me this is craftsmanship at it's best ! John Taylor
