Another Model 12 Question

I recently inherited a Model 12 from my late father. No model number on the rifle, but it has an octagonal barrel, and is chambered in .22 short, long, and LR. Family lore is it was used by my grandparents in the 1930s to hunt for food during the Depression. I found a pdf copy of an original manual which appears to show it is a “Target” Model which originally sold for $16. The serial number is 85316. Anyone have info on when it was manufactured? Thank you!

1911. Most target models came with a semi pistol grip stock but about 10% had straight stocks. By 1918 the price was $20.25.

Thank you Tom H. Just out of curiosity, how did you determine that date? Is there a list of Remington serial numbers with dates of manufacture?

My knowledge comes from Gyde & Marcot's excellent book, Remington 22 Rimfire Rifles. They were at 55104 in 1910 and reached 104041 at the end of 1911. Remington says 831753 was the last number produced but higher numbers above 832000 have been observed. The book tells you everything you ever wanted to know about the 22s, but I don't believe it is in print any longer...tom
