Want to redo my stock on my model 14, need advice

Post by Big Boox »

Just purchased a .32 rem model 14 and would like to redo the buttstock. What would you recommend as the best way to go about doing so?
What was the original finish? Sanding or chemical removers? Just trying to get it looking a bit better, looks like it had been hidden away in a barn for a while. No real damage to wood, just looks really worn, it is a 100 years old this year, so I guess it should.
Will try to get some pics up today.

I would not refinish the stock. first you said it 100 yrs old don 't take its character away try old English furniture polish oil . and never sand the wood it will not match up with receiver.
