572 no barrel code ?
This rifle has no visible letters on it's barrel and it does not have a serial number on the right hand receiver plate. It must be older than 1968, Any help or suggestions in dating the rifle would be appreciated. Were the codes under the front slide or covered by the receiver?
Thanks Dan

Re: 572 no barrel code ?
Thanks for the reply. The issue is there is no visible barrel code or inspector marks on the opposite side. There is a shroud which protrudes approx. 1 inch up the barrel from the receiver. my best guess is that it's covering any markings.

Re: 572 no barrel code ?
The mystery continues. I removed the Barrel from the receiver. This was very easy to do and still did not find any markings date or proof any where on the receiver end. As you can see by the photos it has the regular Remington 572 22 cal markings. Is there any place else they could be on a early 572?
Re: 572 no barrel code ?
There's no place else they would put date code markings, either it was missed or the barrel was replace by someone other then Remington or a Authorized Remington Service. (or someone walked out the back door before it was stamped) Are they stamped after they are put on the receiver, maybe someone knows. I would expect them to be stamped when manufactured so it there was something wrong with a tool (rifling) or something they could track the barrels that could have a problem but ?
Is that a big deal, I don't think so.
Maybe there's someone working in the factory about?

Re: 572 no barrel code ?
I was hoping some of the Rim fire guys could give me a ball park year from the photos. It is interesting that this came from Bridgeport which was Remington country for most of the 20th century who knows maybe an employee or company gun. may never know.
Re: 572 no barrel code ?
There's really not alot that can be discerned from the photos since they don't show the complete rifle. They've been made since about 1956. From the grooved fore end, it's an "A" model (and not a BDL). It probably has a 24" barrel (somewhere around 1980 they shortened them to 21"), even though they did have some shorter barrels earlier than that.sgtsemo233 wrote:I was hoping some of the Rim fire guys could give me a ball park year from the photos. If it doesn't have a serial number, it was likely made before 1968.
The lack of a date code is suspicious, but probably not totally out of the realm of possibility.
I have a Nylon 66 made in 1962 that doesn't have a serial number, but did have a date code.
SO, probably somewhere between 1956 and 1968.

Re: 572 no barrel code ?
Here are eight shots of the rifle's various features. I removed the front sight and discovered a "C" stamped in the dovetail slot. C is 1956 or April but that is reaching. I have a 1960 552 Speedmaster without a serial number but with a Barrel code.

Re: 572 no barrel code ?
Well, I poured over the Remington Rimfire book and found nothing to help you. And nothing to help me figure out why the is a dovetail under the screwed-on rear site of these rifles! Sorry to be of no help.
