Model 14-A pistol grip cap ID

Post by mwp321 »

Hello everyone. New to this forum and hoping I could possibly get a couple questions answered. I aquired a model 14a .30 rem at an estate auction some time ago and am wondering if anyone can ID the pistol grip cap. And if it had any meaning or was used to ID a certain group (Law enforcement etc)or if it was just added as a decorative piece. Also wondering if anyone can ID the grade of wood used as it looks better than most Ive seen. It came with a lyman r14 flip down peep sight (the aperature stem is in bottom of safe somewhere. I didnt feel like emptying safe to locate it. It also has a marbles folding rear sight.

I think the only definitive thing any of us can say is "it sure as heck isn't factory" but rather something a previous owner "stuck on" (poorly) one evening after visiting the local pub. Bottom line "it isn't factory"!
