I only got the first page, but thanks anyways. I too just picked up a Mod 51. What a joy to shoot. Trying to use the sights wasn't much good, but just pointing - it shot right where I was looking. And it fits so nice in my hand. It's great for carry because it's so thin, even under a tee-shirt that's not tucked in it's hard to see. The only down side is the price of ammo - 40$ a box up here in Michigan. Found 4 boxes at a Ace Hardware store out in the bonnies for 18$ a box- bought all four he had. Paul

Mine is just back from the gunsmith who restored and reblued the gun. It was in terrible condition with less than 10% original bluing on it. The slide was badly rust pitted so it was replaced. I'm taking it to the range this weekend. There is a lot of gun grease on it (Rig brand) and that's what you see on the frame in the pics but I cleaned it up and I'll lube the slide before shooting some mild reloads in it. I love this gun and so does everyone who holds it!

The pictures make the gun look better than it actually looked. The slide was badly pitted and the frame was rough. I could barely disassemble the gun and reassembly required an act of God. It wouldn't release the magazine and the safety wouldn't engage and now everything works perfectly

Mine actually looks worse but it shoots great. The guy i got if from said his dad carried it in his belt for 40 years as a postal inspector. But i wanted a cheap shooter not a collector grade but now i want some bluing on it...Bob

Bob,
My pistol had some functional issues that my gunsmith fixed while he was rebluing the gun. Now, the gun not only looks great, but it functions correctly. I'm taking my wife and daughter to the range in an hour or so so they can shoot this Remington and my Colt 1903 Hammerless. Both guns will be handed down to our kids, I will not sell them! They were both past the point of being "collectible" because of condition issues, but they will be cared for and used at the range from now on... They are "shooters" that also happen to look pretty nice!
