Derringer 41 short mono block
Derringer 41 short mono block
I have a remington 41 short type 5 I think. I have looked for years to find more information on the gun and basically have come up empty handed. The only info I have read is that it is 1 of around 500 made. It is the mono block type in great shape. I also have a box of 41 shot ammo. Well the box has fallen apart (bad shape) but I do have 47 rounds. Can anyone give me more information on the gun?

3rd Model 5th type (which may not agree with blue book but that's what collectors call it) also at least 15th or 16th variation
1 of ~500 is correct, I have to dig records to see if there is a more definitive number, it maybe in Doug's book I don't have it in hand http://www.remingtonsociety.com/rsa/books/Deringer as far as I know there's is one nickel which is also the last serial number L76118. Numbers are bit goofy in the end don't let that throw you I'm sure that's explained in there. I *think* Doug is a registered member of the forums and maybe he'll comment.
DO NOT mess with the box or shoot the ammo, what kind is it?
It could be QUITE valuable.

Thanks for the help...
The numbers look like L 76 O 85
The ammo box is basically destroyed. The gun came from my grandfather and when he gave it to me it was in one of his socks, box and all. I’ll update post later with ammo manufacture (green box). I would say ammo came with gun.
The gun story. Well the story I got… My Grandpa Pop ran the casinos in Kentucky when it was legal??? Pop told a lot of stories that usually involved guns. He always included the derringer that he carried in his sock. I have some old news paper clippings about when the Chicago mobsters came down shot Pop’s casino up, and as the stories go that was the last one.

If you look at the locking lug under the barrel it's date code stamped, check the manufactures date link off the home page for explaination.
