remington 700 bdl .270 safty

I aquired my remington 700 around yr. 2000, it was brand new. i need to know if it needs a new trigger mechanism or what is the safty issues. was the misfiring issue addressed before that yr modle...pls help i dont want to use it much less let my son use it (which by the way is fresh back from afganistan)...somebody pls. respond! thanks in advance!
