Hi Mike, best book for your interest would be the book from Roy Marcot, Remington Americas oldest gunmaker, a ton of info in this book. May be hard to get, but well worth the effort. The other one worth having is, Reminton Handguns by Karr and Karr, way out of date now but has good information in it.

Mike
I think the book that will answer your questions and serve you best is "Remington Army And Navy Revolvers 1861-1888" authored by the late Don L. Ware. Don spent years researching the book and is recognized as one of the foremost experts in this area or Remington collecting.
