I recently acquired four New Army revolvers. Three appear to be unaltered and unfortunately one was completely re-blued. The one I have pictured here has very little to no bluing left but has a nice patina. The stocks appear to be original although one has a "chip" out of it. Also there is a cartouche on the left stock but I can't discern the letters. The SN is 69971. I am looking for a manufacture date and any other info that is available.
I just ordered Donald Ware's book but won't have it until next week. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the world of Remingtons. According to Ware's book, your gun was made in May, 1864. The cartouche looks like it might be a B H, which is Benjamin Hannis, a principle sub inspector. As to other info, you'll have to scour Ware's book, but generally we only know when a gun was made, sometimes where it was shipped, but almost never any other info. From the looks of the metal around the nipples, you pistol may be out of time and dry fired enough to damage the damage the metal. Still a nice pistol.
