A local gun shop is selling a 'factory engraved Remington Smooth No.2' shown in the attached photos.
Do you think that the engraving has really been done at the factory ?
Also, the dealer says that the grips are 'original false invory grips'. I have never seen 'false ivory' being offered as an option in old catalogs of the period, and beside that, the screw that holds them enters by the right side en seems to be much bigger than those usually used.
Thanks for your opinions.

Re: Factory engraved Remington Smooth ?
They called it faux ivory or something but yes that is correct, what does the inside of the grip look like?
Perhaps someone can answer this before you have too
But as for the engraving that definitely looks period.
I think people will debate what constitutes factory engraved but I call it that's it.
Remington didn't have an engraver, someone is welcome to straighten me out if that's not correct and there's certainly some knowledgeable people on the board who have straightened me out before.

The grips look, to me, like some type of bone, which was not used on Smoots. The phoney Ivory grips were Celluloid with a metal backing.......Jim
