Historical Letters for 1875’s ?
Have a nice example of a 1875 .44 rem , believed to be part of the Egyptian order / contract . Is there the facility / contact info available to search the serial number ? Thx . Appreciate the help . Ghh
Re: Historical Letters for 1875’s ?
Hello Accumulator,
To my knowledge there are no records, which identify by serial number the 1875 revolvers that were part of the Egyptian Contract. I know that they were a part of the first fifteen thousand revolvers manufactured. I have recorded the serial numbers of twenty-four Egyptian contract revolvers as low as 97 and as high as 12405. The Egyptian contract revolver usually has an “R” on the left side of the frame in front of the cylinder and a small star on the left side of the barrel in front of the frame. I have heard that there are also revolvers with only an “R” or only a star but I have never seen one. There should also be a cartouche on the left grip, which may have worn off due to heavy use. These revolvers have a lanyard ring, a pinched front sight, a flat top hammer without bevels and a rectangular firing pin. There are also no bevels on the topside of the trigger guard and no frame rebate. From your picture it looks like there is no frame rebate. By the way can you tell me the serial number of your revolver? I am collecting data on 1875 revolvers.
I hope this information helps,
Bill

Has the “ circle “ FR cartouche left grip . Has Star and the “ R “ se# 7465 . Fairly confident based on 40 years of handling old stuff it is genuine . Thx for your help . Unfortunate there is nothing available like a “ factory letter “

Factory records are typically provided by the holder of the factor records and since Remington's went up in flames that's no-one. Remington does not provide this service which leaves the opportunity for the RSA to do it and it has been debated. While a document could be provided with details about firearm models and in some cases dating has been acquired elsewhere the question was if the value/cost of this kind of document would justify the work required that unfortunately can't be just looked up in the record book.
