Per Don Ware's book, your gun was made in Dec of 1864 on a government contract.

Another new to forum with an 1858 seeking help with manufacture date info and possible value. I inherited this gun several years ago and just starting researching it. It is an 1858 44 serial number 45358. I thought it was a reproduction, couldn't find any marks and finally took it to a gunsmith specializing in black powder weapons. It's real. All of the serial numbers match and it has the original grips with marking on the left grip. It appears that the grips have been refinished and the gun has been re-finished and re-blued (really nice job). I thought this was a new repro when I first saw it. The pat info on the barrel is partially worn off.
Can you tell me when that serial number was made?
Some idea of the value?
Thanks.

Ware's book shows it was made in Nov 1863. If the gun has been refinished is has no collector value. Enjoy it as a shooter, but black powder only.
