DUEL FINISH SMOOT's

When we think of duel finish Remington revolvers, we think of Nickel with the chose of Gold Plate or Gold Wash on the cylinder, hammer and/ or screws.
However, I believe there was another chose. Research shows that blue was combined with nickel on the Model 3,4 and some 1875 SA's. Existing catalogs and published accounts state that Remington would accept special orders for exterior finishes.
The pictures of the Model 3 and Model 4 Smoot's were special ordered with blue cylinders, screws and on the #3 cylinder pin. Based on the condition of these revolvers, I believe they left the factory as pictured...........................Jim

Those could be original, or they could be replacement cylinders. Remington guns almost always had the fire blued screws regardless of the rest of the finish. It is hard to tell without serialed cylinders. This would have been an easy special order for Rem. Just take a blue cylinder off the line and put it into a nickel frame.
Another one of those mysteries that will never be solved. Still a couple of nice looking guns.
