Elliot's patent Model 1861 Old Model Army

Post by kotkinjs1 »

Hi all, proud owner of a new to me Model 1861 Old Army in original condition. No fillister screw installed on the loading lever. Serial number is 2159 matching on the frame and barrel. Small W stamp under trigger guard. All else is worn but can make out a little of the patent date and "Illion" on the barrel top. Function is fine. Grip has an interesting number stamp....maybe a rack number? The only thing wrong is the female part for the screw keeping the loading lever in the frame is stripped....friction is the only thing keeping it in. It doesn't come out on its own but it's not secure. Don't know what to do about that. Also came with its holster. Don't know if it's original to the pistol but it sure seems old enough. Definitely worn and the strap is missing.

Any way to determine any details based on the serial number? Unit, date, etc? Thanks and enjoy.

I read elsewhere that this is a Beals (Old Model came 1863)

Forgot to mention that one of the differences is, that the Beals barrel doesn't go as far through the frame as the Old & New Models', i.e. you don't see any threads in front of the cylinder.

Elliot Army (old model) Was delivered from 1862 (patent date 1861) Later version and the transitions had visible barrel threads.
