Identifying bullet mold

Post by collector68740 »

Hello

I am new on this forum and I live in France and may be you will be able to help me in identifying a bullet mold I acquired a few months ago. I suppose it is a Remington bullet mold( cal 36.) but I am surprised that the closing pin is located on the right block as normally it is on the left.
The diameter of the conical bullet is of 383" and the round of 378".The conical bullet has the same shape as the Colts bullet for the 1849 pocket or the 1851 navy.(with no grooves).
There are no markings excepted a faint "S" on the right block. See attached pics..
What do you think ?
Many thanks
Alain

Due to a mistake in my first post regarding the diameter of the round bullet, please read: 413" instead of 378" !
I checked several times and the diameter is really of 413 ! It is very strange that the difference is so important ( 30" ) between round and conical bullet..? The cavity for the round seems to be untouched....
I will add some pics .

No one has an idea about this ?
May be the conical bullet is for a 36 cal. pistol and the round for a 40 cal. rifle ?
Can this be plausible ?

IMHO: The cased sets of percussion Remington revolvers that I've seen, assuming they are original, have the type mold you pictured. The rounded spruce cutter is generally attributed to Remington revolvers, but not sure if made at Remington or purchased.
The different sizes of the castings, is not normal. Did you cast the ball yourself? Was the mold tightly closed when casting? Will it load in the cylinder? ( remove one nipple and try to load that cylinder, than it can be pushed out)...........Jim

P.S. The "s" is most likely and inspector mark.....
