1863 "New Model" Army
1863 "New Model" Army
I have the revolver, holster and ball/bullet mold. Serial number 81047. The cartouche is hard to read, maybe starts with "B" or "R" Hoping to learn a little more about this.
Re: 1863 "New Model" Army
Hello,
Your revolver was manufactured in June of 1864. If the cartouche has two letters and starts with a B it is most likely BH for Benjamin Hannis an Armory Sub Inspector who inspected Allen & Wheelock, Colt Model 1860, Remington, Savage “Figure 8” and Starr revolvers. If it has three letters starting with R it is probably RPB which according to Don Ware’s book Remington Army and Navy Revolvers 1861 – 1868 is an unidentified inspector. I have another list of inspectors, which lists two RPB cartouches one being for Robert P Berry who inspected Remington, Starr and Rogers and Spencer revolvers from 1860 to 1865. The other belongs to Robert P Beales who was an Assistant Sub Inspector from 1862 to 1879.
