Remington N/M Army Sn question

Post by reliceye »

First time poster here, thanks for your help in advance. I have a new model Army which was found under a house on a battlefield here. It is in relic condition with no grips, loaded and a half cocked with no percussion caps on it. I can read the serial number 66617 but can see no inspectors marks. The battle here occurred in October 1864 between Hood's Army of Tennessee and the 44th US CT. One can imagine this was lost in the heat of battle or just before capture. Can anyone give me a date of manufacture or shipping date? Thanks very much, reliceye (it is not for sale)

Hi,
Your revolver was manufactured in April of 1864 and was probably shipped the same month.
