1858 Remington original reproduction fitting part problems

Post by old-iron »

I recently have been going in circles buying parts for my Original 1858 New Army revolver

Anyone know what brand of reproduction parts look & fit an original revolver???

I have tried Pietta they are said to be larger parts but the hammer seems to fit my frame at the top
the hammer has the same horizontal hatching on the top as the Pietta hammer
the Uberti hammer has the right design like a diamond pattern

I received original reproduction parts today that's why i bought them
the hammer & main spring fit poorly
the hammer has the same horizontal hatching on the top as the Pietta hammer

the main spring would not fit the slot at all it's to thick
were the Pietta drops right in

any help would be appreciated on what Brand or what Seller has original looking and fitting parts
Thanks

For parts check Dixie Gun Works, especially mainsprings. For original parts try:
Jim Schaffer
P.O. Box 381
Irwin, PA 15642
412 - 672 - 6830
His parts can be pricey but he usually has a fair selection.

Good luck in your search.

Lodgewood and S&S firearms has a good assortment of parts. New reproduction and originals parts.

Most of the time with repro parts for originals, you will have to do some filing and fitting. They are usually made oversize to do so. They just usually will not just drop in. Originally most parts were handfitted to that particular Firearm. So you still have to do it today, just like then.

VTI and Taylors have alot of repro Uberti parts.

I currently have a mainspring out of my Uberti 1875 repro Remington in my original. Dropped right in.
