Looking for a Double Derringer main spring

Post by Lars »

Hello and greetings from France. My old Remington Double Derringer .41 RF is missing its main spring. I have unsuccessfully tried to find spares in France. Could anybody help me finding one main spring in the US? Thanks a lot.

(T.R.S.A.)

Salutations.

Bonjour !
Cordialement,
lars

I ship things oversea's for friends all the time, if it's worth the double shipping costs for you drop me a line and I'll receive it and send it on. I also suspect EJ probably might have them as well and can give him a call for you, he doesn't do email.

I can read a bit of almost anything (except Russian) but I would butcher the language if I tried to respond in French.

Hello david,

I am also interested.. especially for a main spring; how to proceed ? You knows my mail address.

Thanks if it is possible ! but it's just for spare parts, my four O/U are working perfectly.

Thierry.

Hi there, I finally got an original mainspring thanks to this forum (and a special thank to Wildwest Thierry and David!!). It was a bit difficult to install it - One must know that there is a risk to break the spring.
I'll try to paste a photo of the pistol that is now complete.
Cheers, Lars

To date a Remington shipped in 1922 or later look for a 2 letter code. On the double deringer it is on the side of the under barrel locking block. It is based on the legend "b-l-a-c-k-p-o-w-d-e-r-x with each letter representing a month.
The second letter will give the year starting with the letter N for 1922. the letter P for 1923, the letter R for 1924, and so on. Example, if you found the letters PB, the gun would have shipped in June 1933.

Please note that these are shipping dates, not manufacturing dates. It was not unusual for Remington to have guns sitting around for months or more before they were shipped.

Thank you dan, you gave me the answer about date code and serial number;
I didn't know what was first; the delay was sometimes more than 12 months
if I remember well.

I bought recently the L75001 (january 1932) and searching for the L75000
the RSA administrator Mr FAGAN thinks that the series began probably with
this one but not sure...

hello JAMedley+1
I know that wildwest could get a few repros but not cheap and needed to be adjusted (I suggest you to get in touch with him). I also suggest to check ebaXXX.com listings because I have seen a few of them selling for little money and they were orginal. Unfortunately (for me) they did not ship to France. Good luck!
