Re: Remington RB no1? Sporter
Hello Eskil, The early Remington sporting rifles were made with the receivers that were used on their military rolling block rifles. The 2-line patent dates were stamped on the top of the upper tang. Here is a photo of the patent dates on my early sporting rifle. 20181229_151040 (2).jpg The 2-line p...

Re: Remington RB no1? Sporter
Hello Eskil, Remington made the sporting rifle up to about 1894. The rifle would of been made by the Remington Arms Company. The barrel maybe marked E. Remington & Sons or Remington Arms Company. In Roy Marcot book Remington Rolling Block Rifles, Carbines & Shotguns Sporting & Target Rif...

Re: Stud Extractor
Both of the 1867 Navy carbine and the Navy Cadet rifle had concave breech blocks with the stud extractor. I think i have photos of them on my computer, if not i will take some photos of the breech block this weekend for you to see.

Re: Stud Extractor
I think it was because the stud extractor at times would rip through the thin rim of the early copper cartridge cases leaving the cases stuck in the chamber. I don’t think it would be a problem with brass cartridge cases

Re: no. 5 7mm roller carbine
Here are some photos of my rolling block carbine that I had saved on my computer. This carbine is a cross between the Model 1897 and the Model 1902. I will try to dig my Model 1902, 7mm carbine out of the back of the gun safe this weekend and take some photos of it. P1010862 - Copy.jpg P1010861 (3)....

Re: Tell Me What I've Got
Hi There, Mine doesn't have any cutouts under the butt plate. How deep do yours go? I would like to ask a favor if I might. Would you take some measurements for me please? I would like to know the following three dimensions: Distance from the end of the forend to the muzzle, Distance from front of ...

Re: Remington Carbine ID
From the photos that you posted it looks like the Argentine rolling block carbine. They were chambered in .43 Spanish, which was a bottleneck case. A lot of of the Argentine rifles and carbines were re-blued when they were shipped back into this country.

Re: Tell Me What I've Got
Hi Matt, Thanks for responding! Your Civil Guard model is very nice! Does it have a "tinned" finish? It sort of looks like it does. There are no assembly numbers per se, except for the left-side upper and lower tangs have 356. Your receiver is a "type 2" with slide bar extractor...

Re: Springfield/Remington 1870 Rolling Block Carbine
Thank you, very interesting, when was this done? My first topic just got cleared so here are more photos but I think you have nailed it! I believe the conversion was done in the 1880's. The Whitney Arms company went out of business in 1888. In the book "Arming The West" there was a shipme...

Here are some photos of the barrel bands.
The number 22 which I believe to be assembly numbers is stamped on the barrel, frame and forearm.

Hello Webb,
Here are some photos of my guard rifle.
The barrel length is also 30-5/8 inches.
The thickness of my receiver is 1.315 inches.
My rifle has the slide extractor on it.

Re: Tell Me What I've Got
Hello Blue Chips, Is this the one that was on gunbroker for a long time? I looked at it a number of times thinking that it may of been chambered in 50-70. The rear sight on the guard rifle is the same type that is found on the New York State rolling block rifles. Also I think the frame and breech bl...

Re: Springfield/Remington 1870 Rolling Block Carbine
Your carbine looks like one of the 1870 Springfield Navy rifles that were converted to carbines when the rifles were sold on the surplus market. The conversion was done by Whitney Arms Company. Here are some photos of my converted 1870 Navy Rifle. Sorry for the poor quality of the photos, they were ...
