Re: 243 shells

If it has a factory barrel, it should say ".243 Win." on the left side of the barrel. Even if it has been re-barreled, it should still be stamped with that if it's a .243 Win. All "factory" .243 Winchester cases (brass) have the same dimensions as per industry (manufacturing) spe...

Re: Need some help

Thanks for the pictures, Smokey. Yep, it's definitely a 1980's vintage 870. In addition to what Virginian said about the Express models, I've also noticed (in my collection of catalogs) that the "plain Jane" versions also "morphed" into the "Special Purpose" models arou...

Re: Need some help

Mike and Smokey, The confusing part is that the first post indicated that it is a pump shotgun, but dating from the late '50's......however, many of the other earlier "Sportsman" shotguns were auto-loaders. I guess there was even a version of the model 11 back in the 30's that was labeled ...

There was also a Sportsman 58 series, too.

Re: Explain Redfield 1 piece base

They're for securing the rear scope ring. The square-ish slot in the front of the base is where the (bottom of the) front scope ring twists into and the rear ring is held in place by those opposing screws.

Re: What was the intended use for a Remington 31 full choke?

My answer to both of your questions would be: "Anything that could or can be hunted with a shotgun." Back in the 1950's, when I started hunting with something larger than a .410, I used my grandfather's pump action Marlin (exposed hammer) 12 ga. with 30 in. full choke barrel. It was (and s...

Re: New here and collecting

It maybe your lucky day. I found some things I feel I may not be able to live without. I can offer you the 700 ADL and BDL 7mm express as a package. Both guns are new in the box, and both guns are the actuall guns that are pictured in John Lacys book "THE REMINGTON 700". Page 180 and 182....

Re: Rem 722 .222 mag. QUESTION?

Have a Remington 722 .222 mag. Been trying to find info/value on the gun. Can't seem to find info anywhere other than it was manufactured approx.1958. Was hoping to get some feedback. Don't have any interest in selling , just want to find out what I've got. Should I use the heck out of it, or treat...

Re: Mystery Model 700. Can you help me?

If you've been shooting it with .223 ammo, it sounds like it IS a .223. I would suggest doing a Google search on something like "Vietnam sniper rifles" and start reading through the results. I did a brief search and came up with quite a few links, but couldn't find any reference to any Rem...

Re: 870 20 gage barrel

Your shotgun was very probably made in 1968, that's where the 'S' prefix started, and the 'X' suffix means it was one of the 20 gauge shotguns built on the 12 gauge size receiver. You say it is a Magnum, but a Magnum standard weight should have had an 'N' suffix. Does it have "Magnum" rol...

Re: Rem. Mod 7 and Mod 700 actions- what is difference

The Model 7 is also a re-designed version of the Model 600 series.....600 (w/vent rib barrel), 660 and 600 Mohawk. As far as dimensions go, the Models 600s and 7s (compared to the 700s) have less "mass" in the receiver area just ahead of the bolt handle.......between it and the cartridge l...

Re: Model 700 7MM REM. MAG Manufacture Date?

I have received a 7MM REM MAG and curious of the manufacture date. I have scoured the Remington internet pages and continue to get the code where the letters B L A C K P O W D E R X represents the month and the the next letter represents the year. My serial number is A6898633. Any help is appreciat...

Re: Model 700 Unknown

According to the information you've given, the two L's indicate the rifle was manufactured in Feb. of 1964. The receivers were not stainless steel. Remington continued to use stainless steel barrels until 1970 (as near as I can tell from the catalogs). I have a 1971 vintage ADL version in 7 Mag (wit...

They're also available from Remington's website......for FREE.
I've ordered a number of them in the past for various discontinued models. I just checked and the one for the Model 17 is available.
