Re: Newer collectables, the Fours, Sixes, 740's, 760's & 74/7600

A very nice carbine and new to me. The label confirms it is factory. Who commissioned it? Any idea as to the number made?

Re: Remington 180th Anniversary - Number of 5 gun sets

Hi Tim,

That was the quoted price in their ad in the 1998 RSA Journal. Blue Book would not have a price since so few sets were made and even fewer change hands each year.

Re: Remington 180th Anniversary - Number of 5 gun sets

Tim, The quoted price in 1998 was US$6,934 to 7,453. I paid a small premium in 2002 over a standard Model 7400 for my 180th 7400 but the dealer was interested in moving it as he had it for over a year. The engraving and gold embellished game figures along with the gold banner and gold bust of Elipha...

Re: Remington 180th Anniversary - Number of 5 gun sets

Tim, The auto shotgun is the Model 11-87, my error in stating it is a Model 1100. Once you make a mistake that is published it is out there forever. The current (4th Quarter 2009) RSA Journal has an article on the Remington gas operated rifles and I thought I corrected the information. I had but not...

Re: Newer collectables, the Fours, Sixes, 740's, 760's & 74/7600

Guys, Thanks for the kind words but my spouse is worried you will give me a swelled head. I blame good friend Ray Shields for asking about his four digit 760 pump years ago which resulted in a quest and the book. I found out that they are like potato chips - can't have just one. The factory hand eng...

Re: Need Info on the .236 Remington

Billy, There was a considerable amount of experimentation with the .236/6mm cartridges in the 1890s. I mention and give specs for the rimmed .236 USN, rimless 6mm USN, rimmed .236 Remington, rimmed .236 Luger, rimless 6mm Luger and rimless 6mm Mauser in my Winchester Lee book on p.20. Remington was ...

Re: Remington letters of authentication???

31man, Unfortunately there are no factory letters that can authenticate factory engraved arms. The RSA Research Team has not found any engraving documents for the prewar period. We have found some for the postwar period and they formed the basis of my 4th Quarter Journal article - Remington Engraved...

Re: model 11-48 engraved

Truezy, Great photos of your engraved 11-48 - they are a big help in identifying it. As noted in my 4th Quarter Journal article - Remington Engraved Firearms 1946 - 1980 - many GIs took advantage of the fact that engravers both in Europe and Japan needed work during the late 1940s and 1950s. The eng...

Re: 760 Magazine question

A very good question and so far I have not found an answer in the Remington Archives. The hole is found in 1952 and up to late-1953 production magazines as noted on p. 100 of my book on Remiongton Autoloading & Pump-Action Rifles . A pure guess on my part is that it was either for production pur...

Re: model 760 .35 Rem. production numbers in 1952

Hi Jim, Sorry about the cutoff data. As you have surmised the 1952 Model 760 production was 41,417 in caliber .30-06. The 1952 production also included 14,431 in .300 Savage and 7,887 in .35 Remington. The yy code is 1952 and there should be a letter code just ahead of the yy for the month. The book...

Model 760 - 2,570 carbines in "C" grade and 418 in "CDL" grade were produced from 1960 to 1963. A total of 62,726 carbines in all grades and calibers were produced from 1960 to 1980. This information is found on p.26 of my book on Remington Autoloading & Pump-Action Rifles. G...

Re: model 1100 with gold inlay

Go to the opening website page and click on the 4th Quarter 2008 Journal Article on Engraving. It has several examples of "F" grade engraving and gold inlays. This is Remington's top grade and the fit and finish are outstanding as is the figure of the wood. Each gold figure has as much gol...

Re: What parts are missing from this Remington-Lee Model 1899?

Hi, As you have noted it is a Model 1899 Remington Lee. Is yours a factory sporter or a sporterized military? 1,446 factory sporters were made and are in the 75000 - 76000 serial number range. The 2,001 Michigan National Guard military rifles are in the 100000 - 102000 serial number range. Many of t...

Re: Remington lee in 8x57?

Hi, You have a nice Model 1899 Sporter. The serial number found on the left receiver rail should be in the 75000 - 76000 range. A total of 1,446 were shipped from 1899 to 1909. The caliber should be stamped on the underside of the barrel just ahead of the forearm tip. It most likely would be 32 Winc...
