Re: Model 14 .25 Rem Youth Rifle?
To me, it would depend on what type of (deer) hunting......from a stand, in brush or woods, open country, short distance or longer ranges. Personally, I consider BOTH cartridges (.25 Rem and .243 Win) to be "light" for deer unless they're within about 100 yds. and/or the shooter being able...

Re: Model 12 production
So, any Model 12 without letters should be pre 1921? I have a Model 12 (my dad's) with a serial number in the 729000's and I have been trying to determine when it was made. I can confirm John Gyde's post as my 12 C has serial number 72904X and has the date code of A W, which should be March of 1928...

Re: Info on barrel length of 03-A3 Rifle
Thanks Den, I clicked on your links and I still only see barrels that are abopuit 3" long. Do you see any in pics that are longer? Matt I don't know what you're referring to. The barrel length is measured from where it starts in the receiver. The '03 and '03-A3 Springfields had stocks (includi...

Re: CONVERTING A 270
WHY??? Well, in the first place, the case head-size (rim diameter) isn't the same. The .270 uses standard "06" case head (rim) dimensions. The 300 Ultra Mag uses a larger (magnum) size case head (rim).......so, right off, you have a problem with the bolt. The bolt from the .270 would have ...

Re: Why doesn't Remington change..
I have several 870's that date from the late '60's to late '70's and the trigger guards are NOT plastic.......probably anodized aluminum, but definitely not plastic. Ok. Well, this year is 2009 and even the current production 870 police models now come with plastic/synth trigger guards. Maybe you s...

Re: Why doesn't Remington change..
Just put my first firearm on layaway. It's an 870 Police model (parkerized). It's mainly for home defense. After lots of research, it seemed that this was the shotgun for me since I didn't want a 'starter' gun that I'd probably want to upgrade later. I have a couple of kids in the house , so over p...

Re: Why doesn't Remington change..
the safety position on the 870? That and the switch placement seem to be the two recurring criticisms I hear in reviews when people compare them to Mossbergs . The fact that you have to take your trigger finger out of position to do the safety and switch. I guess it doesn't matter since the 870 is ...

That's my interpretation based on the information you've supplied.
That would be a nice little gun to have.

Re: First year production 870 410ga
I did some searching and found (I believe) a comprehensive list of the letter prefix and suffixes. Den REMINGTON SHOTGUN SERIAL NUMBER STRUCTURE M/870 LETTER PREFIX 1950 TO APPROX 1968: NO SERIAL NUMBER PREFIX 1968 TO PRESENT: LETTERS USED (IN SEQUENCE) S-68, T-74, V-78, W-84, X-90, A-91, B-94, C-97...

Re: First year production 870 410ga
Since the date code indicates a 1970 date and the small gauge 870's were introduced in 1969 (in matched pairs only), yours would not be a "first year production". As far as the letter prefixes and suffixes, those typically indicate things like gauge, frame size (small, standard or magnum) ...

Re: Early 7mm Mag BDL?
Is it a "hinged" floorplate? Also, does it have a black fore-end tip and grip cap? I'm sure that all of the Mdl. 700 BDLs from 1962 (when it was introduced) on, had all three of those AND impressed checkering AND a cheek piece with a Monte Carlo stock (recoil pads came on magnum calibers)....
