Model 11-48 Grade Designation
Does a Grade B gun (enhanced wood, no engraving) have a B letter suffix on the receiver after the model designation? I have one that looks like a "B" has been eched after the receiver was blued. I suspect this is not factory. By any chance, did ...

Re: 870 20 gage barrel
Your shotgun was very probably made in 1968, that's where the 'S' prefix started, and the 'X' suffix means it was one of the 20 gauge shotguns built on the 12 gauge size receiver. You say it is a Magnum, but a Magnum standard weight should have had an 'N' suffix. Does ...

Re: what year was my 1100 made? serial number inside
OQ is the date code. The O means July, and the Q means 1978. The M prefix in the s/n was used 1974-1978. The V suffix indicates 12 ga 2 3/4 inch.

Bksht, The B prefix was used from 1994 thru 1996 for one million serial numbers. Your 432xxx would fall into about 1995. The U suffix indicates a receiver for 20 ga light weight magnum.

Mc, What are the numbers on the left side of the barrel? The V prefix was used 1978 thru 1983 for one million numbers, yours is 6/10 of the way to one million, which is about 1981. Your s/n also tells us that your receiver is for a 12 ga 2 3/4 inch shell, the V suffix.

Re: Help dating an 870 Wingmaster
Okie, Your serial number indicates mid fifties, the W suffix indicates 16ga, 2 3/4 inch. You can find the month and year the gun was completed by looking at the codes on the left rear of the barrel, provided the barrel is original, and going to this ...

Re: I think I've dated this 870 correctly.
The S prefix was used 1968 to 1974, your S/n is early in the number sequence, so 1969 looks correct. The V suffix indicates a 12 ga 2 3/4 inch receiver. In Pa you must have a plug installed to prevent loading more than 3 shotgun shells for small game. The plug can be removed ...

Re: I think I've dated this 870 correctly.
You could be correct with your date, but it could also be May 1998. Post the s/n with both prefix and suffix letters. The 3 shell limit is to satisfy some state limits, a plug can be removed from the magazine to give you the maximum capacity.
