Bill, Your 1887 orginal chamber length is 2 7/8 inch unless it is spl.order it would stamped on bottom of barrels. Or if somebody lengthen them you would have to measure them.I reload brass shells 3 1/2 drms 2fg black powder 1 1/4 oz shot.

Tony, I can help you with your problem I also think latch spring is short the forend should stay on without the small spring it just holds the latch spring up in place to put forend on barrels. Turn the gun upside down catch the spring on barrel lug should snap in place if it does not snap, it is to...

Sorry I think I am mistaken and mixed up the numbers. Ok I am on right track. What condition is your 1889 you said it is a grade 1.

You said 1898 there is no Model 1898 if it does not have hammers it is a 1894 or 1900. If it has hammers it is 1889 or earlier you have to find which one..

What shells are you shooting?If it works on snap caps and not on live shells that could be the problem check shells and chamber.Assuming the chambers are good and shells are correct..There are couple of things,the firing pins not releasing. There are two type early ones are part of the hammer later ...

There is one other explanation if the barrels are steel and the receiver is stamp 2 could have been sent back to Remington and rebarreled with steel barrels number to gun but the chance of the number size & style to match,not much.I have 1900 two barrel set number to gun you can tell it was sent...

Sorry but that rib and barrels are right to the gun (receiver) Remington did not stamp the rib on the last of 1889's only the lock plates.The receiver is stamped number 2 it is either miss stamped or the barrel are twist and have been cold blued and you can not see the twist..the serial number on th...

Yes your barrels are Remington numbered to the gun I can not tell if
they are steel or twist. I have serial number 2560xx they are not stamp.
(Remington Arms) Need more pictures of barrel than????maybe. can tell..
