Re: Gove style under lever Rolling Block
I did open the action lever, and peek into the receiver with my pen light to see what it might reveal internally. It appears the lever pivots off the front trigger plate cross screw, and there's a link from the lever that's about 3/16" square headed up towards the breech block. So likely that o...

Re: Gove style under lever Rolling Block
I can't find any markings, or stamps that deluxe stocked Remingtons had in the stock top tang inletting to indicate the work was factory. So guessing it's been restocked by someone, sometime. Seller knew nothing about the rifle as he bought a small collection of single shots, and this was part of it...

Re: Gove style under lever Rolling Block
Very nice rifle, glad to see that you finally got delivery of it. You will have to post more photos of it and give us a range report. Have a Good Day, Matt Thanks Matt! I was searching this morning for some hint of who did the gun, and when I unscrewed the buttplate screws I got a surprise! The but...

Gove style under lever Rolling Block
Just picked up this Gove style under lever Rolling Block. No idea who did the work, or built the barrel? Surprised to find it is built on an original Remington Sporting Rifle action, with the longer lower tang, and it's original serial number. I was expecting a nicely reworked old Military action, n...

Re: Remington #3 Hepburn manufacture date
Hi Thanks for the reply. That was the same thing I thought. I need to have certain proof that it is before 1890. I can see that probably wouldn't be possible. Pity, caouse it's a nice rifle. Thanks again. Do your laws not let you own post 1890 firearms, or is it a case of having to do some paperwor...

Re: Remington #3 Hepburn manufacture date
With the steel forearm tip, and buttplate style being of the earlier versions, I'd expect this to be an antique variation and not post 1898. But whether it falls prior to 1890 for your restrictions I would be surprised if it was. And really no way to know for sure on the 1890 date.

Re: Rolling Block salvage
Icing maybe, winning the lottery might be more like it. Like I said I'm impressed, honestly We have some good guns show up at our monthly collector gun show here. Last Sunday I picked up a 1873 Trapdoor that was a local gunsmith's project gun. He'd put new stock on it, and color cased the breech bl...

Re: Rolling Block salvage
Well I'm imppressed and I'd be willing to bet after it's done it'll be a shooter to boot. I'm a handy kinda guy but I'm always impressed by the craftsmanship I see in the process of bringing a gun back to it's prime, A lot of work but in my opinion worth every bit Thanks! The value of this Rolling ...

Re: Rolling Block salvage
Yet to be determined. Since I need to make a breech seating tool for it yet, and finish turning brass so I can fire form it to fit the chamber.Bill Allen wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 9:14 am Very, very nice a heck of a good looking gun now, but hows it shot?

Rolling Block salvage
This started out when a friend asked me if I was interested in an old Rolling Block project. It was an original military BP era action that had been converted somewhat to Sporting, and fitted with a BW Darr heavy #5 weight octagon barrel in .35-40 Maynard. The action was reworked to a speedlock, wit...

Re: Relining a Remington 1 1/2 to 32/40
Well, I guess no one is willing to stick out their neck on this one. Can’t blame you. Probably best to stay with the original calibers. Since the only difference from the #1 Sporter and the #1 1/2 is the side walls below the step on a #1, I think it's plenty strong for the .32-40 with average loads...

I've never tried using the attachment method here. I use my free Imgur account and post pictures that way.

The #1 1/2 is the same frame size as the #1, except thinner in width side to side. The #2 is a completely different, and physically smaller frame. It also has those lovely curved edges to the front and back of the receiver that is only found on the #2 rifles, and Rolling Block pistols.

Re: Remington Keene
I can't open any of your pictures, so no idea of the condition. But I'd never attempt to bring a Keene back to shooting condition unless I already had the parts on hand. As mentioned almost anything you'll need would require a skilled machinist to make from scratch. I always wanted a Keene as I thin...

Re: Rolling block Identification
The vast majority of military Rolling Blocks are chambered in cartridges based on the Remington .44-77 bottleneck case. Remington tried to sell each country on the .44-77 case, but most wanted a case of their own proprietary cartridge. So they came out .43 Spanish, .43 Mauser, .43 Egyptian, etc. whi...
