Re: HELP with RIFLE ID

It's a Egyptian rolling block rifle, most of them encountered today are 3-band rifles that have about a 36" barrel on them. Yours maybe a 3-band rifle that was cut down to 2-band. There should be a long bayonet lug on the right side of the barrel. What is the length of the barrel on this gun? H...

Re: Help dating Remington RB

It is a New York State rolling block rifle, used by the New York National guard from approximately 1872 to 1897. Approximately 15,000 were ordered in 50-70, very, very few were made in 45-70. You will need to do a chamber cast to determine which one it is.

Re: rear sight

I have a NYS Rolling block in very good condition and nothing special apart from a presentation plate fixed to the butt stock with the words 'Presented by W.E ROLFE' in an oval silver plate. Does this mean anything to anyone? Have not been able to find anything on W. E. Rolfe, does it say who it wa...

Re: rear sight

Excellent, it appears that pvt.Haseltine is sporting that medal in the 1895 dated photo. Out of curiosity, he appears to be wearing a cross on his left arm. Perhaps a medical person? As you can see I am having some issues on photo orientation for which I apologize. I got L. Hazeltine’s shooting met...

Re: Remington Creedmore rifle

they are located on the left side of frame . Last patent date is Sept. 9, 1873, so mfg. would have been either late 1873 or early to mid 1874? I think the 1 in your serial number maybe a lightly stamped number 4. Remington started to place the patent dated on the left side of the receiver after ser...

Re: Remington Creedmore rifle

I checked my reference book and General Custer's sporting rifle was serial # 3333 and was shipped to him in 1875, so I would think that your rifle could of been made in 1872 or 1873. Question for you, are the Remington patent dates on the upper tang or on the left side of the receiver on your rifle?...

Re: Remington Creedmore rifle

Very Nice rifle !!!! The number on the bottom of the trigger guard would be the serial number. It may also be stamped on the bottom of the barrel under the forearm. What is the length in inches of the brass case for that 44-90 cartridge?

Re: Early round top Sporting Rifle

little late to the game on this thread. My curiosity has come into play as it appears that both two piece trigger guards are associated with a single set trigger. Just wondering it there is a connection. The single set trigger could be added to any sporting rifle for a extra cost. The earliest spor...

Some of the New York State National Guard members would have Buffington rifle sights from the Springfield trapdoor rifles put on their rifle to help with target shooting. 20200216_113036a.jpg 20200216_113112a.jpg Photo of the 13th Separate Company shooting teams No.1 & No.2 13th Separate Company...

Re: rear sight

Here are some additional photos of a modified rear sight that is on another rifle in my collection. This rear sight was also modified by adding a windage knob. In 30 years of collecting military rolling blocks, I have only seen one other NYS Model rifle with this modification. 20191102_151126.jpg 20...

Re: rear sight

From the patent dates on your rifle it would make it a part of the 2nd contract that was ordered on May 29, 1873 by the state of New York. A lot of the 2nd order rifles that I have seen for some reason don't have the inspectors cartouches on the the stocks, like those that are found on the 1st order...

Re: Parts for a Remington rolling block

You could try G.S. Womack his website is www.rollingblockparts.com or you could try ebay do a search using remington rolling block and a lot of parts for rolling blocks will pop up. I would think that the barrel bands for the Greek contract would be the same as used on the .43 Spanish model rifles. ...
