Model 17, checkered but no engraving?
I have 2 M17's A standard field grade, no checkering, ringed forend (but has a two barrel set, both numbered to the gun) and a 17E. A friend just bought one in very nice condition, it has no engraving but the stock and forend are checkered. Was there such a variation or was the checkering added to a...

760/740/7600/7400 30-06 clip questions
I do not have any of the above guns but I believe I have a clip for one of them. Only marked 30-06 and has a button on the side that when pushed to the center lowers the follower. I have seen these clips without the button on some of the newer guns but which models does this one fit? http://img.phot...

Re: Does anyone shoot a Model 17
I certainly will but it may be years. I am not going to do a total rehab but rather a good cleanup of the wood and metal, have the screws fixed and shoot it.

Re: Does anyone shoot a Model 17
I shot my field grade when I want a change from the usual SxS's, a light gun to carry. Mine is a 2 barrel set, both solid rib and numbered to the gun, a 26" MOD and a 28" FULL. Last year I was finally able to get my hands on this E grade, it took about 6 years to get the owner to sell it. ...

Re: 720 Steel Buttplate?
Yep, that's the problem, I don't think they made any in steel except for the 720's.

720 Steel Buttplate?
I'm looking for a replacement steel buttplate for my 720. Sometime in it's history someone dropped it and chipped the toe of the stock. So what did the butcher do? He filed down the bottom of the steel buttplate to match the wood instead of repairing the wood. This is the plate from a 721 but it's a...

Re: Yep, some help with 572 Fieldmaster Year of Manufacture?
NO letter before the serial number, I typed incorrectly above, it's a, J A T on the left barrel breech area. There is a tiny X on the barrel right at the barrel receiver junction but that looks like an assembly mark, not the date code. The J is what's throwing me off. I'm pretty sure the gun is olde...

Yep, some help with 572 Fieldmaster Year of Manufacture?
It's a nice, high condition, smooth stocked 572 with a grooved receiver. The serial number on the left side of the receiver is 1490019. The left side of the barrel breech is stamped J A T.
Not sure about the J, does the A T signify March of 1970? Is the serial number any help?
thanks,
Rob

Re: Model 30-S Express in 300 H&H Magnum?
Nice gun but it's not a Mauser. M30's were made from the US P1917 Enfield, a different action than the Mauser. Someone probably rechambered a M30 from 30-06 to .300 H&H.

Re: Model 30 or sporterized U.S. Model of 1917
To me it sounds more like a modified 1917 barreled action possibly in a M30 stock. If the action isn't marked Model 30 it isn't one.

Re: M700 Lawsuits?
I had my 700 SA fire when I took the safety off. I was in AZ javelina hunting and we were setting up for a shot. I took the safety off and the gun fired, never touched the trigger. Could not replicate it though.
