Re: Rolling Block #1 Barrel replacement
Hi There, Based on what you are saying, the threading on the receiver #1 may be different as well? Based on pictures, I have a No.1 Rotary Extractor. Thanks I take it you have a #1 frame that is either a type 3 or type 4. Both of these frames used the rotary extractor. The type 3 had a step on eithe...

Re: Remington Creedmore rifle
Hi There,
Does the rifle in question have the flat base or
concave base on the breech bolt? Early models
have the concave base and Remington switch to
the flat base in August of 1870.
Good Luck!

Re: Calling Rolling Block Experts
Hi There, They were the consortium, with Marcus Hartley as the head, that took over the bankrupt E Remington & Sons in 1888, and reformed it into Remington Arms Co. In other words, they were Remington Arms. As I understand it, there were two principles in the purchase of E. Remington and Sons. A...

Re: Calling Rolling Block Experts
Hi There, Thank-you for the response. I looked the No. 5 up in my 39th Blue Book, and it indicates on p. 1548 "Very few made - possibly only 300." The values are pretty high. That is ridiculous! many tens of thousands of #5 rolling blocks were made. Most were 7mm Spanish Mauser (7X57) cali...

Re: Calling Rolling Block Experts
Hi There, I believe what you have is a later rolling block action. They are called the No. 5 action and these were made for higher pressure cartridges (like 7x57) originally. Seeing that yours has the bar type extractor, it is an earlier version (made from 1896 to around 1901 or 1902). In 1902, the ...

Re: Rolling Block 2 band fore stock ID help
Hi There, If you compare your stock to the photos I provided, you can see that the your forestock cannot possibly be from a rolling block. All rolling blocks have the same back end on the forestock where it meets the frame regardless of the country that ordered it. Good Luck! -Blue Chips- Webb

Re: Rolling Block 2 band fore stock ID help
Hi There, The lighter one is for a Martini. The other, darker fore stock I believe is for a musket or carbine rolling block. Possibly Egyptian? Any help would be appreciated. I'm a little confused. In pic #3, If the stock on the left is the Martini stock, the one on right doesn't look like a rolling...

Re: Remington Rolling Block in .348 Winchester Questions
Hi There, Although getting way off topic, Re Remington's bore dimensions, what about Winchester lever actions and Colt revolvers? Possibly just the state of the art in the early days of cartridge guns and soft lead bullets. Not exactly. Colt and Winchester barrel dimensions were fairly consistent. R...

Re: Remington Rolling Block in .348 Winchester Questions
Hi There, Barnes COTW is rife with errors [/i] You are correct about that. Still, I have more examples of .43 Spanish to draw from to support the information I posted and Barnes' dimensions for the .43 Spanish are pretty accurate judging by the old surplus ammo I have in my collection. Barnes did sc...

Re: Remington Rolling Block in .348 Winchester Questions
Hi There, Your RB is of the 1879 Argentine pattern with the Nock's Form barrel (w/ Octagon breach section). The numbers on the sides of the tang are a lot numbers. Rolling Blocks were made in lots varying from 10,000 to 50,000 in a lot depending on the contract. The upper and lower tang should have ...
